Thanks to Shana
Lankford for the information on this page.
For four weeks we will be teaching in two of the Primary
(elementary) schools in Moshi. Each day there will be a theme, and each
of the six centers will follow the theme of the day as closely as possible.
(The only time the plan will not be followed is when the director gives
other directions.)
Example: The first day the children study numbers.
* The Reading group would read the story of creation.
* In Art they would draw pictures of the days of creation and number them.
* In Drama they would act out the seven days of creation.
* In English they would match number words with that number of objects.
* In Games they would play some sort of counting game like "Pingle
Mingle".
* In Songs they would teach songs about numbers such as 1 little, 2 little,
3 little elephants...etc...
Each group will have a name such as Red Lizards or Blue Hippos. The fun
names help the children remember what group they are in as well as promote
group spirit. Most groups come up with chants or songs the first few days
to help the children find their groups in the mornings. Each of the children
will have a nametag for school created by the teacher of their group.
The teachers are responsible for working together on designing the tags
as well as putting them together. Teachers will also need to come up with
any visual aids they want to use. Ideas will be given in the lesson plans,
but the lesson plans are just the basics.
Art (The Green Crocodiles)
The main objective is to use each child's creativity to expand their
English vocabulary as well as to practice following instructions in English.
Drama (The Orange Tigers)
The main objective is for the students to learn new vocabulary and
practice their pronunciation through active self-expression.
English (The Red Lizards)
The main objective is for students to learn the basics of English
grammar in order to improve their conversational English skills.
Games (The Blue Hippos)
The main objective is to encourage the students to listen and converse
in English through group interaction.
Reading (The Pink Flamingos)
The main objective is to use small groups of students reading aloud
from the same story to improve their recognition and pronunciation of
English words.
Songs (The Purple Fish)
The main objective is to encourage the students to use English through
the repetitiveness of learning songs.
