Highlights, Goals, and Objectives for the Summer: About the Project: Daily Schedule: Fund raising: We will begin writing letters very soon. Most churches make out their budgets in December and January. Making opportunities to meet with elders or missions committees is a great way to gain support, especially at your home congregation. Also, get radical about saving money for this trip. Many churches, friends and family will be happy to support you but it is important that you invest in it as well. There is a book that I have called Churches of Christ in the United States. It is a great resource that I will share with you. Each person will have an account at the Christian Center to have money sent to. The donations are tax deductible and the Christian Center will send a receipt if your sponsors request one. Health: Vaccinations: Here is the list that I have. Double check with
you doctor to see if it is current. Some of these are required, others
are only recommended: The water is not suitable to drink or even brush your teeth with. The missionaries will boil it for us. If you have a water purifier that you trust, bring it with you. They are about $70.00+ if you want to buy one. Sometimes it is more convenient but not necessary. Medical Care in Moshi is available and good: There is a teaching hospital (KCMC) at Moshi that has good, clean facilities and competent doctors. Should there be an emergency, we will get blood from your teammates, and the many missionaries from other groups in the area. We will have a list of everyone's blood type before we leave. You might want to check with your health insurance to find out their policies for international travel. They might require an extra fee for the coverage while you are gone. If they do, it will probably be worth the investment. If someone needs serious medical attention, you will be flown to Nairobi, Kenya. It is about a 90min flight. There they have the best medicine in East Africa with many American and European doctors. I don't say these things to scare anyone. Of course, we don't expect anyone to get hurt or sick. I just want you to know that we will be prepared if anything comes up. Safety: Moshi is a small town of less than 150,00 people. Everyone in the town will know who we are, why we are there, and what we represent within a few days. It is a safe city to live in but we will have to be careful. Foreigners are always easy prey for con men and thieves. There is some fighting in East Africa but that is hundreds of miles from Moshi. Our names will be registered with the Tanzanian US embassy and we will leave the country if there is any doubt about our safety. Tanzania is a republic like the United States. They have religious freedom even more than we do in some cases! Documents: There are three documents that you will need to enter
Tanzania. One is your Yellow card (see Vaccines above) and the others
are your passport and visa. You can get a passport application at the
Post Office and your passport photo at Wallgreens. You must get your passport
before you can send off for your visa. They each take several weeks to
process. The Estimated Cost: Miscellaneous Expenses (spending money) $ 200.00 If this packet does not cover all of your questions and concerns, call me at 615-898-1615 or e-mail: claypoolrg@hotmail.com We will begin meeting on a regular basis during this semester and next for worship and meetings.
